The Point super-fast EV chargers will be available in 18 SHKP malls across the city by the second quarter of 2024

Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited (SHKP) today officially launched the Electric Vehicle (EV) Super Charging service exclusively for The Point members at its shopping malls. The service, the first of its kind in Hong Kong, aims to support the Government's effort to encourage the use of EVs and will provide greater convenience to The Point members in a timely manner.

At the ceremony held at East Point City in Tseung Kwan O, SHKP Executive Director Christopher Kwok stated: "SHKP is committed to promoting sustainable development and fully supports the goals of carbon-neutrality for the country by 2060 and for Hong Kong by 2050. Green commuting plays an essential role in sustainable development, and we are pleased to see that electric vehicles are gaining popularity in Hong Kong. There are currently more than 54,000 electric private cars in Hong Kong, and they account for more than 60% of all newly registered private cars this year. There is a significant demand for EV charging. In order to provide exceptional service to our customers, we have invested resources to acquire high-performing chargers and install them at SHKP malls exclusively for The Point members. Members can even use bonus points to redeem this service, which is yet another exclusive benefit for them after our popular contactless parking service, allowing them to enjoy double benefits with a single app. Both services aim to enhance our members' shopping, commuting, and living experience."

Since its launch in 2019, The Point, an integrated loyalty programme for SHKP malls, has attracted over two million members. To provide a better customer experience, the Group has continually introduced new services by adopting new technologies and innovative ideas. The contactless parking service, in particular, has been warmly received by The Points members, with over 150,000 having signed up.

The Point EV Super Charging service excels in three areas

The Point EV Super Charging service offers three significant advantages:

  1. The super-fast 60kW chargers provided by SHKP have excellent performance and can fulfil the needs of most EV owners. The chargers are compatible with most EV brands and models on the market.
  2. The EV Super Charing service is seamlessly connected with The Point app. Members can enjoy the convenience of activating car-park gates, charging EVs and paying parking fees, etc. all via The Point app. There is no need for them to download different apps or pay fees at shroff counters.
  3. The service is good value for money, offering competitive pricing. The Point members can pay just HK$40 for a 15-minute service or use 1,500 bonus points to redeem the service.

The Point EV Super Charging service was piloted in six shopping malls - East Point City, Tsuen Wan Plaza, V city, Mikiki, Tai Po Mega Mall and YOHO MALL. The 23 super-fast EV chargers in place were used by 2,000 members in just a few weeks. The Group plans to install super-fast EV chargers in 18 SHKP malls (including the above six malls) across the territory by the second quarter of 2024. This member-exclusive EV charging network will span Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, strengthening its competitive edge in the market.

Contactless parking service extended to 100 Wilson car parks

In the long run, SHKP aims to extend its premium services beyond shopping malls, allowing The Point members to gain the best commuting experience through a one-stop service - contactless entry and exits of carparks, charging EVs, and paying parking fees at the Group's properties and managed car parks, all via The Point app. Starting from July, the member-exclusive contactless parking service will be gradually extended to 55 designated car parks managed by Wilson Parking. By the end of this year, the service will be further extended to 100 Wilson car parks. This will allow The Point members to enjoy added convenience as they can enter and exit these designated car parks across the city using a contactless mode and pay parking fees via The Point app, hassle-free.

SHKP continues to promote sustainable development

Mr. Kwok said apart from advancing green commuting, the Group has strived to develop green building technologies and promote renewable energy. It is building one of the largest solar energy generation networks in Hong Kong, which is expected to have about 14,600 solar panels covering more than 400,000 square feet by the end of this year. The network can generate 5.6 million kWh of electricity every year, equivalent to the annual consumption of 1,700 households. Moreover, SHKP is working with a partner to build the city's first solar farm on a landfill site in Tsueng Kwan O. The Group would also look at feasibility of building independent solar generation system on agricultural land not yet ready for development.

The Group has made every effort to promote environmental protection, including partnering with Green Power to launch the SHKP Love Nature Campaign in 2011. A terrestrial and coastal clean-up mobile app, the first of its kind in Hong Kong, was rolled out in recent years. More than 160 clean-ups have already been organized via the app to date.
