The Dublin, Ohio-based company said it had net income of 23 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains, were 21 cents per share.

The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 12 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 23 cents per share.

The hamburger chain posted revenue of $540.7 million in the period, which also did not meet Street forecasts. Eleven analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $546.6 million.

For the year, the company reported profit of $204.4 million, or 97 cents per share. Revenue was reported as $2.18 billion.

Wendy's expects full-year earnings in the range of 98 cents to $1.02 per share.
