New Total Brain Report Helps Clinicians Better Understand Patients' Brains

By Beverly Hansen, RN, MBAon Mon, Jun 28, 2021

At Total Brain, we recognize that clinicians need to have the best possible understanding of what is happening in each patient's brain in order to develop effective and appropriate treatment plans. We've listened to provider feedback and are pleased to share that we are updating the reports available within Total Brain to provide added value to clinicians with more detailed patient insights.

Total Brain's new multi-page reports will include a unique combination of measures for each of the Total Brain capacities and mental health screenings, along with STEN score, and Z score data. We're happy to be able to deliver a level of granularity in these reports that we know clinicians want, and that will drive informed treatment strategies and better patient care. This breadth of data is exclusively offered by Total Brain. Having access to this data provides a more complete picture of what is going on in each patient's brain, and it helps providers determine the best course of treatment for patients.

Who Can Use These Reports?

All Total Brain's clinical customers - providers and clinics - can take advantage of the newly expanded data reports. Clinicians treating various conditions from attention deficit hyperactive disorder, to traumatic brain injuries, to mild cognitive impairment can leverage data from Total Brain's reports-using the data in tandem with other tools such as MRIs and EEGs.

What's Included?

Clinicians who have been using Total Brain's reports will notice the updated version still includes a Brain Report that provides at-a-glance information such as mental health screening scores and Total Brain assessment scores across the emotion, feeling, cognition, and self-control categories. Assessment scores are presented in percentile from 1-100, so clinicians can see whether each patient's brain assessment results show low, medium, or high function across each category.

We've updated the report to show patients' responses to standard behavioral health screening tools. Now, rather than only having an aggregate score, the new reports drill down to show a patient's actual response to questions that screen for mental health conditions.

We've also added a detailed breakdown of results for each Total Brain assessment category that applies a STEN score, Z score, and a range to show whether each patient scores above, below, or in line with others across each mental capacity. Adding these details to the report provides much more information for clinicians to use to develop a treatment plan.

Here is an example of some of the detail a clinician will see for the cognitive category of a patient's report. As you can see, it shows measures for these cognitive interactions within the assessment:

  • Motor Coordination
  • Processing Speed
  • Sustained Attention
  • Controlled Attention
  • Flexibility
  • Inhibition
How Is This Helpful?

More detailed scoring enables clinicians to better understand brain performance and choose the right course of treatment for each patient. Having the recorded documentation in an easily downloadable format also enables clinics to easily substantiate that they performed assessments and opens the door to new revenue reimbursement opportunities.

When And Where Are Reports Available?

Providers can download reports from their dashboard. Also, Total Brain's EHR integration enables clinicians to see insights directly within their EHR.

Total Brain is continuing to roll out new capabilities to support providers and clinics. If you have feedback or questions about the new functionality of these reports, or questions on how to get the most value from them, we want to hear from you: schedule a call.
