CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) _ U.S. Xpress Enterprises, Inc. (USX) on Thursday reported second-quarter earnings of $19.1 million.

On a per-share basis, the Chattanooga, Tennessee-based company said it had profit of 37 cents. Earnings, adjusted for investment gains, were 8 cents per share.

The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 13 cents per share.

The company posted revenue of $475 million in the period.

U.S. Xpress shares have increased 26% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $8.63, a rise of 18% in the last 12 months.
