MMO Games Market in Russia Reached the 28 Billion Rubles

The MMO game segment in Russia grew by 24% in 2014 reaching a level of 28 billion rubles. According to the data gathered by Mail.Ru Group experts, the market size more than doubled since 2012.

"The MMO game segment is growing actively and remaining profitable for developers. The most remarkable growth occurred in 2013. We believe that this resulted from the growth in the number of users and the increase of the inter-game sales value in several projects.The relative decrease of growth rates in 2014 could be explained by the low number of launches in the MMO segment accompanied by an increase of interest in the mobile segment," commented Oleg Shpilchevsky, the Head of Games Business Unitat Mail.Ru Group. "Quite a number of MMO games will be launched in 2015 in the Russian and global markets: this year has already seen the the global launch of Skyforge and the closed beta testing of Armoured Warfare.."

According to Newzoo, MMO users account for 50% of the total number of gamers in Russia (45% in US and South Korea).

Experts have also compiled a portrait of an average modern MMO gamer. A typicalMMO gamer in Russia, the US, China and South Koreais a man aged between 21 and 35. As for employment, 77% of Russian gamers, 74% of US gamers, 87% of China and 67% of South Korean gamers have full-time or part-time job.
