VMware CodeHouse is an exclusive, invite-only, multi-day coding experience for a select group of women technologists currently studying computer science/engineering. Attendees work on a real-world project and then present the team's solution to a panel of VMware judges. As well as working on this project attendees are also presented with an opportunity to network with tech industry thought leaders. The immersive experience provides students with a window to learn new skills, enhance their network, and develop teamwork skills through collaboration - and have lots of fun throughout!

CodeHouse has been running in the US for the past four years, and last month launched in India for the first time. The participants were tasked with creating a unique solution that provides technology companies with an ROI (Return on Investment) solution. Together, in teams' participants designed solutions by compiling comprehensive summaries using keywords from dynamic data available over the internet using web intelligence. CodeHouse is not all about coding, during the three days event, participants were also provided with resources such as training, workshops, and mentorship from experts in the field along with other social events. They learned about AI/ML (Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning) and how to apply different algorithms to build modern and secure applications during the three-day virtual event.

After wrapping a successful VMware CodeHouse India last week, we sat down with VMware University Talent Program Manager, Elina Parida to learn more about the winners of this debutant event.

VMware Careers: Elina, tell us more about VMware CodeHouse in India.

Elina Parida: This was our first-year hosting CodeHouse in India, and we were delighted to virtually welcome twenty-eight women studying bachelor's degrees in Computer Science to participate. Outside of the 48-hour coding project, the attendees enjoyed various team-building activities including a DIY Coffee Art workshop, fireside chats with influential speakers (including our very own CEO, Raghu Raghuram!), and they also got to network with other women from the technology industry.

VMware Careers: The three-day event ends with attendees presenting their projects to a panel of judges. Please share more about the winners of VMware CodeHouse India and what their project was about?

Elina Parida: The grand prize winners at VMware CodeHouse India 2021 were Nishee Sharma, Priyanka Bansal, Joshika, and Nitika Gupta. Their project, "Reach++" revolved around analyzing social media data to get insights into industry trends and then leveraging their findings to increase brand equity, customer satisfaction, retention, and to analyze market trends. It focused on three major pillars of web intelligence:

  • Brand Monitoring: They analyzed the VMworld event and gathered the top trending technologies in the past three years. This visualization technique applies to any event for any company.
  • Market Research and Trends: They focused on an active analysis of how people were reacting to the ongoing event "VMWorld 2021" and its effects on stock prices
  • Product Analysis: They scrutinized consumer sentiments for a particular product to gather insights into the most liked ones.

They also worked towards understanding the negative sentiments in various tweets and tried to study the issues that customers faced. The future scope of this project involves extending the current solutions to other brands and events, enabling fetching and analyzing data from sources other than social media, and performing competitive research analysis of various brands.

I would like to congratulate the winners and all attendees who made the inaugural VMware CodeHouse India a remarkable success! We are already looking forward to next year's event.
