Seoul, Jul 14 (EFE).- The four-member female K-pop band Blackpink will join Weverse, a social media platform created by the company behind the BTS boy band, on Aug. 2, their label, YG Entertainment, announced Wednesday.

The decision comes after YG and Hybe, the company behind bands including BTS, Seventeen and Enhypen, signed an agreement in January to grant Blackpink access to Weverse to be able to share more content with their bands' fans.

After boy bands, Treasure and Ikon, Blackpink, the biggest K-pop band after BTS, will be the third YG group to join the Weverse community, which originally only Hybe's bands had access to.

The platform features around thirty artists from South Korea, the United States and the United Kingdom.

In this way, Blackpink, the second most subscribed artist globally on YouTube after Justin Bieber with over 60 million subscribers, hope to further enhance their presence on the platform and boost exchanges with fans.

The decision to make the jump to Weverse on Aug. 2 is part of Blackpink's "4 + 1 Project" to commemorate their fifth anniversary since debut on Aug. 8, YG said.

A feature film, "Blackpink: The Movie," will also be released in August to commemorate the group's fifth anniversary as well as a limited edition photo book. EFE
