On a per-share basis, the Canonsburg, Pennsylvania-based company said it had net income of $1.11. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were $1.55 per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.16 per share.

The maker of engineering-simulation software posted revenue of $385.7 million in the period. Its adjusted revenue was $389.7 million, which also beat Street forecasts. Six analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $353.6 million.

For the current quarter ending in October, Ansys expects its per-share earnings to range from $1.10 to $1.34. Analysts surveyed by Zacks had forecast adjusted earnings per share of $1.42.

The company said it expects revenue in the range of $347 million to $377 million for the fiscal third quarter. Analysts surveyed by Zacks had expected revenue of $376.7 million.

Ansys expects full-year earnings in the range of $5.75 to $6.35 per share, with revenue ranging from $1.57 billion to $1.65 billion.

Ansys shares have increased 21% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $312.27, a climb of 64% in the last 12 months.
