Cologne, 28th November 2018. Bastei Lübbe is paving the way for a new phase of innovation and growth by creating the new senior position 'Publishing Strategy Director' and the appointment of Simon Decot. Simon will be responsible for the development and reshaping of existing structures in cooperation with publishers, imprint managers and editors working in Lübbe fiction / non-fiction and Eichborn. Furthermore, acquisitions to round off the current portfolio cannot be ruled out. The goal is to significantly expand the imprints and publishing areas in the coming years as a prerequisite for sustained profitable growth based on economies of scale and synergy effects.

Simon Decot has an extensive expertise and a comprehensive overview of the market, having worked previously at Suhrkamp, Bertelsmann, Weltbild, Ravensburger and most recently at Bastei Lübbe with the LYX publishing house and the digital-only imprints 'beTHRILLED', 'beHEARTBEAT' and 'beBEYOND'. He and his team succeeded in doubling results and sales within less than a year. These successes are due to an audience-centric strategy and intensive interaction with end consumers and communities.

Simon Decot: 'I am really looking forward to this great challenge. We have great authors and an excellent team, who are dedicated to realigning our portfolio to meet changing demands and efficiently adapting to evolving reading and communication habits. In the medium term, I also see a major opportunity for our company in market consolidation. As an independent publishing group, we offer clear advantages for succession solutions and can act more flexibly.

Bastei-Lübbe CEO Carel Halff: 'The restructuring and streamlining phase has launched successfully, however, it is not yet complete. Changes in publishing strategy take place over years rather than months. I know Simon Decot to be one of the most creative and economically successful publishers in the industry. With his appointment, the course has now been set for the growth and renewal of our entire list'.
