In April 2020, 26'913 passengers passed through Zurich Airport, corresponding to a decrease of 99.0% compared to last year. Last time in 1952, four years after the start of flight operations of Zurich Airport, the average number of passengers per month was so low.

Local passengers decreased by 98.9% to 20'866 in April 2020. The transfer rate is at 11.9% in the month under review (-16.4 percentage points vs. previous year) and transfer passengers decreased by 99.6% to 2'812.

In April 2020, air traffic movements decreased to 1'921 (-91.7% vs. previous year). The average passenger per movement figure decreased to 37.0 (-71.9% vs. previous year). The average seat load factor is at 20.1% (-59.9 percentage points vs. previous year).

In April 2020, a total of 12'177 tons of freight were transported at Zurich Airport. This corresponds to a decrease in freight volume of 67.5% compared to last year. At the same time, the number of pure cargo flights rose by 234 flight movements to a total of 256 take-offs or landings, compared to April 2019.

Traffic volumes in May are expected on a comparable low level as in April. From today's perspective, a slow recovery will start in June.
