German pharmaceutical company Merck KGaA said Wednesday that the European Commission will not pursue allegations that it breached European Union merger rules when it acquired Sigma-Aldrich in 2015.

Existing antitrust proceedings against Sigma-Aldrich, a German chemicals and life-sciences company, are still standing, the company said citing information from the Commission.

The European Commission concluded in a 2017 Statement of Objections that Merck KGaA and Sigma-Aldrich failed to provide full information related to their merger, saying that a packaging technology that Sigma-Aldrich developed needed to be taken into account in the acquisition process.

Merck KGaA said it has cooperated with the European Commission since the beginning of the proceedings and that it expects the situation to be resolved satisfactorily.
