PT Bukit Asam (Persero) Tbk or PTBA signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Institute of Technology Bandung (ITB) related to research and development in energy and industry. The signing of Memorandum of Understanding was done by PTBA President Director, Arviyan Arifin and Rector of ITB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Kadarsah Suryadi, DEA, handover done by Prof.Ir. Bermawi Priyatna Iskandar, M.Sc., Ph.D. as Vice Rector of Academic on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at ITB Rectorate Building.

In line with PTBA's vision to become a 'World-Class Environment-Care Energy Company', PTBA supports the study to process coal into several derivative products, so PTBA finds it necessary to collaborate with various parties, one of them from universities such as ITB.

The various forms of cooperation between PTBA and ITB include coal gasification research and biomass gasification research to produce gas synthesis (CO and H2) to produce methanol and coal derivative products, including Dimethyl Ether (DME), a type of fuel instead of LPG, Olefin , Ammonia, and Urea.

In addition to cooperate on low-calorie coal gasification research and biomass gasification. This cooperation includes research on composite carbon manufacture from biomass material, fuel cell research, solar cell research, and cooperation in education.

From this partnership, PTBA expects ITB to be able to enrich science and technology in the field of coal utilization to produce various derivative products. In addition, PTBA also hopes that through this partnership, PTBA can improve the business potential of the research result undertaking join with ITB, as part of Beyond Coal's business development strategy.
