I was recently asked by an eminent Sleep Physician why he should prescribe SomnoDent® over other oral devices. Having just visited a small independent laboratory unfortunately trying to produce a copy of the SomnoDent; I was happy to pass on my observations...

Quality Product. SomnoMed follows a strict quality assurance program complying with ISO manufacturing standard 13485 and other very stringent regulatory conditions including FDA and CE. SomnoMed also employs a team of full time bio-mechanical engineers in our Product Development department to continue to refine and improve our products. Not only do we continually test and innovate, we also ensure that all criteria are measured and quality controlled at every step in the manufacturing process. No other product on the market does this.

Patient Comfort. Of course for the device to be truly effective and deliver a medical outcome, it must be comfortable for the patient. Again SomnoMed has proprietary materials that not only add to the durability of the product but also to the extreme comfort of our product. Every device goes through a manufacturing quality control inspection at each stage and is checked again before being dispatched. This ensures that the fit of appliances is absolutely perfect.

Insist on SomnoDent. Copies of the SomnoDent® are not made or tested within medically accepted manufacturing specifications. A single technician operating in a small independent lab does not have the processes, skills or resources to give any medical assurance on quality, let alone efficacy backed up by clinical evidence and heritage. There are no guarantees on quality, follow up is limited and patient support materials are minimal at best.

My passion must have been showing! At that stage the physician interrupted and asked how he could be sure his dentist was only fitting SomnoDent and not a copy?

My advice was when prescribing treatment, insist on SomnoDent! Refer to a recognised SomnoMed dentist who is trained in fitting the SomnoDent range. A professional who will communicate with the referring physician and follow up with the patient to ensure treatment success.

The SOMGauge represents reduced patient chair time, the implementation of Intra Oral Scanning into our production processes. Dr Andrew Gerber is the principle dentist at Gerber Dental Group in Burleigh Heads Queensland. He has had an interest in Dental Sleep Medicine for many years now and feels this area of dentistry is most rewarding due to the way successful treatment can literally change the lives and health of his patients for the better. Dr Gerber actively screens his patients for sleep disordered breathing in his clinics with each examination and uses an iCat machine to determine airway constriction. He has an established sleep referral network to assist with his patient's diagnosis and treatment needs.

" My husband Richard who is 47 and has been grinding his teeth away for years came and saw Dr Andrew Gerber for a comprehensive exam. We are excited to annouce we have two new SomnoMed team members Yogan Gurie in NSW / ACT and Debbie Hawkins in QLD.

Yogan is based in Baulkam Hills and has previously worked with Healthy Sleep Solutions as a Medical Science Liaison.

He has a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree and is currently completing his MBA. Yogan is married and together he and his wife have three daughters. His hobbies include fitness, cross country cycling, and he has an interest in music production.

Debbie is based in Ipswich and comes to us with 20 years experience in the dental industry as both a nurse and working for GSK as a representative for Sensodyne. Before coming to SomnoMed Debbie also worked as a Medical Representative in Urology. She has been married for 15 years and together Debbie and her husband have a daughter and two huskies.
