PLAINVIEW, N.Y. (AP) _ Veeco Instruments Inc. (VECO) on Thursday reported a loss of $32.9 million in its fourth quarter.

On a per-share basis, the Plainview, New York-based company said it had a loss of 69 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs and amortization costs, were 11 cents per share.

The precision manufacturing equipment maker posted revenue of $113.2 million in the period.

For the year, the company reported that its loss narrowed to $78.7 million, or $1.66 per share. Revenue was reported as $419.3 million.

For the current quarter ending in April, Veeco said it expects revenue in the range of $95 million to $120 million. Analysts surveyed by Zacks had expected revenue of $110.3 million.

Veeco shares have increased 11% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $16.37, a rise of 45% in the last 12 months.
