Vietnam January CPI up 6.43% year-on-year - government statistics office

Vietnam's consumer price index (CPI) rose 6.43% in January from a year earlier, led by an increase in the costs of food and catering services and transport, government data showed on Wednesday.

The cost of food and catering services rose 10.93% in the month, while the cost of transport was up 7.5%, the General Statistics Office (GSO) said in a statement.

From the previous month, the January CPI rose 1.23%, the GSO said.

Core inflation - excluding food, energy, healthcare and education prices - rose 3.25% in January from a year earlier and was up 0.76% from December 2019, the GSO said.
