NEW DELHI--Wal-Mart Stores Inc.(WMT) Friday named Krish Iyer as president and chief executive of its India unit.
Mr. Iyer, will replace Walmart India's interim chief executive Ramnik Narsey, from Jan. 20, 2014. He will report to Scott Price Walmart Asia's chief executive.
The appointment comes at a time when the U.S. retailer is rejigging its India operations, seen as a key market.
Wal-Mart had named Mr Narsey as interim chief executive in June, after its president for Indian operations Raj Jain left the company.
Later in October, Wal-Mart pulled out of a joint venture with India's Bharti Enterprises Ltd., to run retail stores, and instead focus on wholesale store operations.
The world's biggest retailer by revenue set up its first wholesale cash-and-carry store in 2009 in India, and has since expanded to 20 stores across the country.
