IWATA, December 24, 2015 - At the Board of Directors Meeting on December 23, 2015, Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. resolved to implement the following organizational reforms and personnel changes, effective Friday, January 1, 2016.

Organizational reforms (effective January 1, 2016)

1. New Business Development Center

The New Business Development Center will be newly established in order to accelerate and strengthen medium- to long-term growth strategies. Under this center, the New Land Vehicle Business Development Section and the New Venture Business Development Section will be established.

Some functions of the NCV Development Division within the Technology Center that handles NCV development functions and the New Venture Business Development Section that handles business planning functions will be transferred to the new New Land Vehicle Business Development Section, with the NLV Development Division established directly under it.

2. Manufacturing Center

The Manufacturing Center organization will be revised in order to deliver rapid and efficient product supply and strengthen the Monozukuri (engineering, manufacturing and marketing) foundation.


1) Establishment of the Demand Chain Innovation Division

Manufacturing planning creation functions, which aim to achieve both rapid product supply based on market demand as well as minimizing product stock, and which were handled by sales and production control departments, will be integrated and the Demand Chain Innovation Division established.


2) Reorganization of the Engine Manufacturing Section

With the reorganization of the Japanese domestic production structure coming to a conclusion, the operational structure will be changed to suit, working to strengthen the Monozukuri foundation for each function.


The Iwata Manufacturing Division, which handles parts casting and aluminum processing, will be divided into the Iwata 1st Manufacturing Division and the Iwata 3rd Manufacturing Division, and the functions of the Hamamatsu Manufacturing Division, which handles forging, heat treatment, and steel processing, will be divided between the Iwata 2nd Manufacturing Division and the Hamakita Manufacturing Division.

3. Engine Unit

The Engine Unit organization will be revised in order to strengthen engine development capabilities, reduce development lead times, and rapidly resolve market quality issues.

In order to enable rapid response in resolving market quality issues, the Quality Innovation Engineering Division will be established directly under the Engine Unit.
In order to promote process reform through using computer-based three-dimensional design and virtual testing, the Process Engineering Division will be located directly under the Engine Unit.
In order to promote the metal mold strategy, the Mold Technology Division will be transferred from the PF Model Unit Component Section to the Engine Unit Component Section, strengthening linkages with the Process Engineering Division.

4. PF Model Unit

The PF Model Unit organization will be revised in order to promote the exchange of technology and human resources, promote cost reduction activities, and rapidly resolve market quality issues.

1) Establishment of the Quality Innovation Engineering Division
In order to enable rapid response in resolving market quality issues, the Quality Innovation Engineering Division will be established directly under the PF Model Unit.
2) Reorganization of the PF Model Development Section
The SP Development Division and the CR Development Division will be integrated to form the new SP Development Division.
The vehicle testing functions that had been handled by the various development divisions in each category will be integrated with the testing analysis functions of the Motorcycle Testing Division to establish the new Motorcycle Testing Division.
The testing management functions and the testing planning functions of the Motorcycle Testing Division will be reorganized as the Testing Planning Division.
3) Establishment of the Cost Innovation Section
In order to strengthen cost reduction activities to improve product competitiveness, the Cost Innovation Section will be established, and the Cost Innovation Division transferred to under it from the PF Model Development Section. Moreover, the PJ Promotion Division will be established in order to promote platform cost reductions and strengthened QCD refinement in in-house and externally-procured products.
4) Reorganization of the Component Section
In order to strengthen the competitiveness of model components, the Unit Engineering Division will be divided into the Functional Unit Engineering Division, which will handle brakes, suspension, etc., and the Exterior Unit Engineering Division, which will handle fuel tanks, plastic body parts, etc.

5. CS Center

The CS Center organization will be revised in order to clarify the functional aims of each department.

The CS Planning Division will change its name to the Planning Division.
The Marketing Division will change its name to the Overseas Marketing Division.
The Domestic Administration Division within the Spare Parts Section will change its name to the Domestic Marketing Division and be transferred to under the After Sales Section. Moreover, the GHP service functions of the Service Division will be included within the Domestic Marketing Division.

6. Motorcycle Business Operations

The Motorcycle Business Operations organization will be revised in order to build a business model for ASEAN-produced global models that is integrated right through to sale, achieve sales expansion of large models in the ASEAN market, strengthen integrated strategies regarding product planning functions and business planning functions, and strengthen business quality assurance functions by improving deployment speed of market information.

The Sales Divisions of the 1st Business Unit and the 2nd Business Unit will be aggregated into the 1st Business Unit, and their names will change to the Southeast & East Asia Sales Division and the Advanced Countries Sales Division.
The 3rd Business Unit will change its name to the 2nd Business Unit, and its Sales Division will change its name to the Emerging Countries Sales Division.
The Integrated Planning Section will be established, with the Product Planning Division, which had been part of the 1st Business Unit, and the Business Planning Division, which had been part of the 2nd Business Unit, transferred to under it.
Due to the transfer of the integrated analysis functions to the Quality Innovation Engineering Divisions established in the Engine Unit and the PF Model Unit, the Quality Assurance Division and the Quality Innovation Division of the Quality Assurance Section will be reorganized as the new Quality Assurance Division and the Quality Promotion Division.

7. Marine Business Operations

In order to strengthen product competitiveness by improving marine engine technology strategy promotion as well as development efficiency, responsiveness, and flexibility, the Development Section will be established within the Marine Engine Business Unit to integrate management of the Technology Planning Division, Design Division, and the CAE & Testing Engineering Division.

8. Vehicle & Solution Business Operations

In order to achieve synergy effects from control technology etc. and to build and deploy high-efficiency business schemes in marketing strategies, the JW Wheelchairs Division of the IM Business Unit will be transferred to the Smart Power Vehicle Business Unit.
