Ecolab Inc. on Monday said Douglas Baker Jr., its executive chairman, plans to retire from the board at the company's annual shareholder meeting on May 5.

The St. Paul, Minn., provider of water, hygiene and infection-prevention solutions and services said Christophe Beck, currently president and chief executive, will assume the additional post of chairman on that date.

Mr. Baker, who joined Ecolab in 1989, has been chairman since May 2006. He retired as CEO at the end of 2020, handing the reins to Mr. Beck, who joined Ecolab in 2007.

Ecolab said Jeff Ettinger will remain lead independent director.
