Alex co-founded the venture capital business that became Octopus Ventures in 2007.
He led the business as CEO until 2017 and subsequently as Chairman until 2019.
During this time Octopus Ventures established itself as one of the leading venture capital houses in Europe investing in and partnering with some of the UK and Europe’s most successful high growth technology businesses.
With over $1bn under management and offices in London and New York, Alex led investments in Zoopla (IPO in 2014 and then sold to Silverlake), Graze (sold to Unilever), Calastone (sold to Carlyle) and Cazoo amongst others.
The team that he built at Octopus Ventures led investments into companies that were acquired by Amazon, Microsoft and Twitter with a reputation of assisting its entrepreneurs in their domestic and international expansion.
Over the years Alex has served as a director on many company boards and led the strategy to build the successful Octopus growth funds.
