Dr. David Cahen is an Advisor at 21Ventures LLC.
Dr. Cahen is the Rowland and Sylvia Schaefer Chair in Energy Research at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel and serves on the scientific advisory board of 3GSolar, a 21Ventures portfolio company.
Dr. Cahen born in the Netherlands, earned a B.Sc.
in chemistry and physics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1969.
He conducted his graduate studies at Northwestern University, earning a Ph.D.
in chemistry and materials research in 1973.
He pursued postdoctoral research at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and at the Weizmann Institute in biological photosynthesis.
In 1976, he joined the Institute's Department of Structural Chemistry and was later appointed to the Department of Materials and Interfaces.
He was promoted to associate professor in 1993 and full professor in 1998.
His recent honors include the Edwards Prize for Research Excellence, awarded to him by the Israel Vacuum Society in 2003, and the 2008 Landau Prize for Chemistry.
Since 2007, Dr. Cahen has served as head of the Weizmann Institute's Department of Materials and Interfaces, the Gerhardt M.J.
Schmidt Minerva Center on Supramolecular Architecture and the Mary and Tom Beck Canadian Center for Alternative Energy Research.
He is also the scientific director of Weizmann's campus-wide Alternative Sustainable Energy Research Initiative, chair of the users committee of the Nanosciences Lab and the incumbent of the Rowland and Sylvia Schaefer Professorial Chair in Energy Research.
