Taylor Wimpey : We celebrate National Apprenticeship Week

Apprentices on one of our Crawley developments are being celebrated for their achievements during National Apprenticeship Week, which runs from 3rd to 9th February.

Now in its 13th year, National Apprenticeship Week is the perfect opportunity to recognise the benefits of apprenticeships and bring the whole apprenticeship community together. The week champions the impact of apprenticeships on individuals, employers and the economy.

The apprentices at Forge Wood development in Crawley are supported by master tradesmen and have the opportunity to develop their practical skills through on-the-job training.

Toby Hearn, 17 years old from Worthing, is currently undertaking a NVQ Level 2 Apprenticeship in Brickwork. Toby has relished the opportunity to work outdoors. He said: 'My favourite part of working at Forge Wood is the chance to work outside each day. We recently had the chance to create our own bond design and incorporate this into a feature panel. This was a lot of fun, as one day I would like to be a fully-fledged bricklayer.'

Kai Wheel, 17 years old from Lingfield, is currently doing his Level 2 Bricklaying apprenticeship in Crawley. Kai hopes to one day manage his own building site: 'I enjoy being trusted to work on houses and gardens while learning new methods and bettering my skills. I have also become a qualified first-aider since working here. Eventually I would like to work my way up the ladder and become a Site Manager.'

Fiona Anderson, Apprentice Manager at Taylor Wimpey South Thames, said: 'We are excited to be giving young people like Toby and Kai the opportunity to get onto the career ladder with Taylor Wimpey, and be a part of building homes in their own community. Our apprentices play a key role in helping us to deliver houses that people want to buy and call home at Forge Wood.
