A group of leading independent digital payments companies in the European Union — including Ingenico Group, Nets, Worldline and Nexi —  have formed a trade group called the European Digital Payments Industry Alliance

The group aims to make Europe a leader in the digital payments industry and create a digital single market. Worldline CEO Gilles Grapinet was named as president, according to a press release.

"I am very excited about this major initiative," Grapinet said in the release. "The EDPIA will give a voice to the incredible technology and engineering behind Europe's payments industry."

He said the group wants to help demystify the industry and provide a greater understanding of what is behind the payments terminals and online payments providers. He also mentioned that the COVID-19 crisis is a good reminder of the critical importance of the digital payments industry.

Bo Nilsson, CEO of Nets, Paolo Bertoluzzo, CEO of Nexi and Nicolas Huss, CEO of Ingenico, will serve as vice presidents of the organization.
