International stocks trading in New York closed lower Tuesday.

The S&P/BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts fell 1.7% to 119.70. The European index slipped 1.1% to 113.29, the Asian index dropped 2.7% to 139.15, the Latin American index decreased 1.4% to 183.94 and the emerging markets index closed 3.2% lower at 241.66.

Braskem SA and Argo Blockchain PLC were among the companies with ADRs that traded actively.

ADRs of Braskem gained almost 19% to $12.76 following a report that Apollo Global Management had raised its offer to buy the Brazilian chemical company.

ADRs of Argo Blockchain fell 11% to $2.19 after the London-based cryptocurrency mining company reported its gross loss widened in September and it mined less bitcoin because of network difficulties and energy-price increases.

ADRs of AMTD Digital Inc. soared 35% to $41.15 amid pauses for volatility. The Asia-focused unit of AMTD IDEA Group, which says its operations include financial services, marketing, media and digital investments, has seen its shares fluctuate wildly since going public in July at an initial public offering price of $7.80. They reached an intraday high of $2,555.30 on Aug. 2, and more than quadrupled on Sept. 14 to $189.42 before seeing four straight days of double-digit declines.
