Communications services companies rose as traders rotated back into some of the growth sectors most beaten down during the January selloff.

Shares of Spotify rallied after Joe Rogan, responding to Neil Young's objections to his podcast and host Spotify, said his show has grown "out of control" and pledged to be more balanced and informed about controversial topics and guests.

Smart-phone maker BlackBerry said it's selling almost all of its legacy patents related to mobile devices, messaging, and wireless networking to special-purpose acquisition company Catapult IP Innovations, for about $600 million.

The University of California system is suing 8minute Solar Energy and Tom Buttgenbach, its co-founder and chief executive, seeking roughly $1.22 billion over the university's investment in several renewable-power projects.
