The permit, approved by the North Dakota Department of Health, allows for the operation of the Great Plains Synfuels Plant.

Dakota Gasification Company - January 8, 2016

Dakota Gasification Company was notified Dec. 11 that the Title V Operating Permit, which allows operation of the Great Plains Synfuels Plant, was approved by the North Dakota Department of Health. The permit is valid for five years and took effect Jan. 1, 2016.

The 180-day application process included a comment period for the general public, as well as theEnvironmental Protection Agency (EPA). No comments were filed by either entity.

The Department of Health reviewed the application and finding no issues, approved the permit.

Dan Whitley, Dakota Gas environmental engineering supervisor, said the permit allows the Synfuels Plant to operate within EPA guidelines regarding the emission of air pollutants.

'The new Title V permit supersedes the existing one the facility operates under,' he said, 'which was set to expire on Jan. 1, 2016, the same date the new one takes effect. The only significant change from the previous Title V permit was the incorporation of new federally promulgated rules (e.g., the major source boiler MACT).'

Whitley will meet with process operations employees to review the permit parameters.
