FTSE 100 Set to Edge Higher After Upbeat Asia Trading

0641 GMT - The FTSE 100 Index is expected to open about eight points higher at 7314, according to IG futures data, after mostly upbeat trading in China and a higher close on Wall Street. Markets in Australia, mainland China, Hong Kong and South Korea gain, though Japan's Nikkei drops 0.2%. The Dow closed Monday 0.3% ahead, though the tech-heavy Nasdaq fell 0.4%. Brent crude increases 1.8% to $101.95 a barrel following reports that Russian gas giant Gazprom would cut supplies to Europe through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline. The company reportedly claimed that it was due to carry out further maintenance work following a complete shutdown earlier this month, though there was speculation about potential Russian government political interference linked to the Ukraine conflict.
