Upon arrival in Ukraine-controlled Chuhuiv, the evacuees are registered before heading off to Kharkiv and other Ukrainian cities where many have relatives to stay with.

Those without accommodation have been given temporary shelters by the Ukrainian government.

Liudmyla Olenchenko came by a private car after her family had heard of a humanitarian corridor for civilians agreed between Russia and Ukraine.

She said the Russian currency, the rouble, and pro-Russian administration are being established in the village which is currently under the control of the Russian forces.
