In commodities, Brent crude dropped 0.9% to $82.01 a barrel, and WTI crude fell 1.1% to $75.53 a barrel.

The German 10-year Bund yield rose by 0.2 basis points to 2.533% from 2.531% and the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury declined by 1.6 basis points to 3.939% from 3.956%. Bond prices and yields move in opposite directions.

Stocks in Asia were down as Japan's Nikkei 225 index was lower 1.3%, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng was lower 0.5%. China's benchmark Shanghai Composite was lower 0.5%.
