The Spanish stock market index Ibex-35 opened Tuesday with little change and a slight upward bias, trying to reactivate the trend that took it to the highest levels of the year and of the last five and a half years.

The market was still dominated by hopes of early interest rate cuts in 2024, although the bullish pull for this reason has been deflated in the last few days, in the absence of news that would reinforce investors' expectations.

In this regard, the inflation data to be released this week will be key, with the final Eurozone CPI figure for November on Tuesday and, above all, the US core price index included in the consumer report to be released on Friday.

In the meantime, and with the annual close of the stock market portfolios in sight, the Spanish stock market is likely to move sideways.

"The Ibex 35 continues with cuts after conquering highs of the year in early December, but without a consolidation of the 10,200 points, a key area after the vertical rise from the floor of last October," said Diego Morin, analyst at IG.

"Now, the Spanish index will try to hold the 10,000 points, important psychological support and where we will see the intentions of supply and demand," he added.

Otherwise, the oil market was still awaiting the attacks by Yemen's Houthi forces on vessels in the Red Sea, which are limiting the transit of the route, through which a high volume of crude oil and gas circulates.

Against this backdrop, at 0802 GMT on Tuesday, the Spanish selective stock market index Ibex-35 was up 4.30 points, or 0.04%, to 10,059.20 points, while the FTSE Eurofirst 300 index of large European stocks was up 0.08%.

In the banking sector, Santander lost 0.45%, BBVA fell 0.58%, Caixabank gave up 0.43%, Sabadell fell 0.40%, Bankinter dropped 0.62%, and Unicaja Banco lost 0.39%.

Among the large non-financial stocks, Telefónica gained 0.33%, Inditex advanced 0.21%, Iberdrola gained 0.60%, Cellnex gained 0.59%, and the oil company Repsol lost 0.85%.
