AB Dynamics will showcase a test of the upcoming Emergency Steering Support (ESS) Euro NCAP protocol at Testers' Day, to be held at AstaZero's proving ground in Sweden on June 1st.

The Halo driving robot and the DRI Soft Car 360 will be used to conduct a live demonstration of the ESS test, which is due to be included within the Euro NCAP regulations for 2023.

ESS systems aim to assist the driver's steering input, altering the vehicle path, to avoid a potential collision. The system must only intervene when there is intent from the driver to avoid the collision through the steering. Following the driver's initial input, the ESS system can then take over to rapidly steer around the hazard. Testing ESS systems need precise control of the steering so that the system can be triggered repeatably on approach of a hazard.

The demonstration will show how this complicated test can be conducted using AB Dynamics' driving robots. It enables precise path-following control of a vehicle and a multitude of options for triggering defined steering inputs, simulating the panic input from a driver in response to an impending collision.

Testers' Day is aimed at test engineers, test experts and suppliers with a focus on ADAS and automated driving. The event is an opportunity for the automotive testing industry to gain more knowledge about the latest technology and have the opportunity to meet and talk with presenters, exhibitors, demo partners and other participants.
