MACA Civil in partnership with ACCIONA and designers AECOM, has been selected to design and construct the M80 Ring Road Completion, delivering a major upgrade between Plenty Road and the new North East Link tunnel entrance at Watsonia in Melbourne's north east.

The project will involve a massive upgrade of the M80 Ring Road including new lanes and smart technology, providing a seamless connection to North East Link and removing 19,000 cars and trucks off Greensborough Road a day.

The project comprises the design and construction of the M80 Ring Road between Plenty Road and the new North East Link tunnel entrance at Watsonia. Works include 14km of new lanes, separation of local roads from the freeways, almost 2 million cubic metres of earthworks, retaining walls, bridge structures, rail interface works, intelligent transport systems, urban design and landscaping.

The project will deliver new lanes, smart technology, a seamless interchange with North East Link and the Greensborough Bypass, improved walking and cycling connections, along with more than 4,000 trees planted.

Thiess Group Executive Australia West and MACA CEO David Greig said: 'This is a significant project opportunity for the MACA Civil business since we joined the Thiess Group last year, and we are proud to be joining the State Government, ACCIONA and AECOM in delivering this vital infrastructure project for Victoria, that will improve safety and reduce travel times for our community.'

Thiess Executive Chair and CEO Michael Wright said: 'This award for a complex major infrastructure project speaks to MACA's specialist capabilities in civil construction and project management. These capabilities strengthen the services that the Thiess Group can offer to clients across sectors from mining, resources, energy and infrastructure.'
