TAIPEI, TAIWAN (August 26, 2011) – Acer announces the completion of an all-new clustered computing competency center, Acer Cloud Competency Center, located at Acer’s e-Enabling Data Center (Acer eDC) in Taoyuan, Taiwan. The center offers proof of concept designs and new clustered computing solutions – including high-performance computing and cloud solutions – and builds upon over a decade of server and data center development by both Acer eDC and Acer Enterprise Products Business Unit (EPBU).

Acer Cloud Competency Center is designed to function as a test-bed for enterprise solutions in the realms of cloud and high-performance computing (HPC) solutions. Today, the center already has certified itself with Intel Cluster Ready for HPC and Intel Cloud Builder’s reference architecture, and, through the partnership with Intel, will create even more cluster computing solutions for its customers.

Acer’s Cloud Competency Center is one of a very few in East Asia. Acer PC Global Group president, Campbell Kan, remarked, “This center is not only an opportunity for Acer, but a solution breeding ground for the region to demonstrate its prowess and solution creation capabilities.” The center’s demonstrated solutions offer a vision of what is to come.” Kan also remarked “This center is designed to be a living investment for years to come; one which will help pave Acer’s way into the greater Enterprise Markets.”

Enterprise Product Business Unit AVP, Evis Lin, also mentioned, “This center will bridge the gap between our customer base and our product line of professional server and storage products by allowing us to create integrated solutions and answer real business needs.”

A major focus of the demonstration, Acer showed off its Acer Cloud Enabler solution with Intel Cloud Builder certification and fast, six hour deployment time. The solution features an easy to use interface and customizable billing architecture to allow organizations of all sizes to enjoy on-demand, cloud computing services. Acer’s Vice President of Mega-Infrastructure Business Unit, Rex Wu, described the solution as “a perfect entry-block for flexible server use, without the data-risk of public cloud alternatives. The solution can even be expanded to take advantage of cloud bursting to Acer eDC’s infrastructure if needed.”

“As the technical advisor to the Acer Cloud Competency Center, Intel is committed to support Acer in delivering proven solutions for high-performance computing, and building and optimizing cloud infrastructure based on today’s IT requirements,” said Steve Thorne, Regional Marketing Director of Data Center Platform Enablement, Advanced Technical Sales and Services of Intel APAC. “CIOs are looking for guidance on how best to harness the efficiency of the cloud with more security and control. Intel is closely collaborating with Acer to better address these needs.”

Equipped with a complete set of cloud-enabling devices, including the latest Intel processors, advanced routing devices, and storage equipment, the Acer Cloud Competency Center is officially online and ready to be put-to-the-test now.
