SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) _ Ambarella Inc. (AMBA) on Tuesday reported a loss of $23.7 million in its fiscal second quarter.

On a per-share basis, the Santa Clara, California-based company said it had a loss of 62 cents. Earnings, adjusted for stock option expense and pretax expenses, came to 20 cents per share.

The results matched Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 10 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was also for earnings of 20 cents per share.

The video-compression chipmaker posted revenue of $80.9 million in the period, which topped Street forecasts. Eight analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $80.3 million.

For the current quarter ending in October, Ambarella said it expects revenue in the range of $81 million to $85 million.

Ambarella shares have fallen 59% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $83.74, a decrease of 21% in the last 12 months.
