  • Gongs for two campaigns plus a young achiever
KUALA LUMPUR, 5 OCTOBER 2015: APD has taken home three prizes from the prestigious Dragons of Asia awards this week, for two campaigns out of the Malaysian office and recognition for one of its rising stars.

The firm scored a silver dragon for its campaign for Hotlink MI Pass, "Pin it to Win it", in the Best Mobile Marketing Campaign category, at the awards presentation this week on Wednesday 30 September.

In a bid to promote pre-paid sales for Maxis's Hotlink MI (mobile internet) passes, thecampaign was inspired by the well-known game, Battleship. "Jualan Internet Lagi Ohhsome"had users searching all over Malaysia for Tompok's lost stash of gadgets -all you have to do is pin it, to-win it! Tompok shared clues on Hotlink's digital and social media channels, to helpusers get closer.

A bronze was also secured in the Best Social Media or Word of Mouth Campaign for Maxis Communications, "It's OK, We're Family".

The "Merdeka" (independence day) campaign, with the tagline, "It's OK. We're family", drawson the uniquely Malaysian habit of greeting people like family. The protagonist, ex-pat Tim Sharp roams the city of Kuala Lumpur to feed his curiosity about why Malaysians greet each other like family -calling strangers brother, aunty or other relations. His colleagues explain to him that in Malaysia it signifies a term of affection, and a celebration of unity, Malaysian-style.

Chee Hung Goon, head of APD Malaysia, said: "These accolades are gratifying for our team who are constantly looking to create enriching experiences for Malaysians as they engage with their favourite brands."

The firm's young achiever, Tim Sharp - alsothe star of the "Merdeka" campaign for Maxis - received a Black Dragon in the Young Dragons of Asia. Tim was the digital strategy lead on Maxis and Hotlink, and recently became the Head of Social at APD Malaysia, while also pursuing a secondary career in radio broadcasting.
