ROSELAND, N.J. (AP) _ Automatic Data Processing Inc. (ADP) on Wednesday reported fiscal second-quarter profit of $694.4 million.

The Roseland, New Jersey-based company said it had net income of $1.65 per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.63 per share.

The payroll and human resources company posted revenue of $4.03 billion in the period, also beating Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $3.98 billion.

ADP shares have dropped 12% since the beginning of the year, while the S&P's 500 index has climbed 16%. The stock has increased 33% in the last 12 months.
