HOUSTON (AP) _ Baker Hughes Co. (BKR) on Wednesday reported third-quarter net income of $8 million, after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier.

On a per-share basis, the Houston-based company said it had profit of 1 cent. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were 16 cents per share.

The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 11 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 22 cents per share.

The oilfield services company posted revenue of $5.09 billion in the period, which also did not meet Street forecasts. Seven analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $5.34 billion.

Baker Hughes shares have climbed 29% since the beginning of the year. The stock has more than doubled in the last 12 months.
