The events center around the popular children’s books How to Babysit a Grandma and How to Babysit a Grandpa by Jean Reagan; Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak; Curious George by H.A. Rey; The Elf on the Shelf: A Birthday Tradition! by Carol V. Aebersold; and the September Storytime en Español, Santiago el Soñador Entre Las Estrellas by Ricky Martin.

The month kicks off with Grandparents’ Storytime - How to Babysit a Grandma and How to Babysit a Grandpa. Grandparents love to read to kids and now it’s our turn to read to them. On Saturday, September 6, stores nationwide will invite grandmas, grandpas and their grandchildren (ages 5 to 8) to a special Storytime honoring all they share. Participants will also enjoy a reading of the NOOK Book® version of the stories. Fun activities will round out the event.

Where the Wild Things Are – On Saturday, September 13, stores across the country will host a free Storytime celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Maurice Sendak’s classic tale, Where the Wild Things Are. The special anniversary edition of Where the Wild Things Are is available for only $8.99 (regular price $18.99) with the purchase of any children’s book until October 31. Kids will go wild for the fun activities, too!

Curious George's Curiosity Day – On Saturday, September 20, stores nationwide will celebrate the mischievous monkey, Curious George, with Curiosity Day. This fun-filled family event will highlight childhood curiosity and a love of learning with a reading of the classic Curious George story, activities and giveaways. The tale will also be enjoyed on the new Samsung Galaxy Tab® 4 NOOK®.

The Elf on the Shelf: A BirthdayTradition! – Throughout September, all stores will host a birthday party celebrating everyone’s favorite holiday hero -- The Elf on the Shelf! Kids miss their elf friends so much that Santa has allowed them to visit on a child’s birthday. Barnes & Noble will celebrate the birthdays of all children at this fun Storytime with birthday-themed activities, decorations and treats. Cuentacuentos: Storytime en Español – From September 15-30, to coincide with the first half of Hispanic Heritage Month, select Barnes & Noble stores invite children and their parents to experience a reading of the Spanish-language picture book, Santiago el Soñador Entre Las Estrellas, by pop superstar and author Ricky Martin. His picture book is a timeless story of a boy who follows his heart and the father who believes in his boundless potential. As Martin puts it, “When you reach for the moon sometimes you land among the stars.” Attendees will also get to enjoy a reading of the story on NOOK. Activities and word practice will round out the event.

Language learning through immersion-style events is key to the Common Core Standards and other curriculum programs. Barnes & Noble’s Spanish Storytimes will appeal to parents who want their children to learn a language and native Spanish speakers looking to enjoy their language and increase their children’s vocabulary through listening to stories read aloud.
