The president of Broadcom Inc.'s software business is leaving the company for another job, and will have his responsibilities taken over by Chief Executive Hock Tan, according to a regulatory filing.

The microchip powerhouse said Monday that Thomas H. Krause has accepted a role at a privately-held enterprise software company and will formally depart on July 15.

The unit's president position will be eliminated as Mr. Tan will be assuming Mr. Krause's responsibilities, Broadcom said.

The filing noted that Mr. Krause's resignation isn't the result of any disagreement with the company or management, and that he will assist in the transition.

Broadcom also said its chief operating officer, Charlie B. Kawwas, is now the president of the Semiconductor Solutions Group, the company's semiconductor portfolio. He will remain responsible for global operations and sales in both the semiconductor and brocade storage networking business segments.
