Ultra High-Field MRI System at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology Creates New Capabilities for the Characterization of Prospective Materials
The installation and acceptance of the 15.2 Tesla BioSpec gives the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology access to the highest field horizontal bore MRI instrument in the world.

KARLSRUHE, Germany - August 6, 2021: Bruker and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany announce the successful installation of the 15.2 Tesla ultra-high field magnetic resonance (MR) imaging system, BioSpec© 152/11. The BioSpec system enables new science at the KIT's Institute of Microstructure Technology (IMT) under the direction of Professor Jan Korvink. Korvink's group focuses on the development of novel MRI concepts leading to two visionary goals for the BioSpec: to increase automation of MRI scans, enabling a higher throughput; and to correlate measurements from multiple analytical techniques, increasing information content while decreasing measurement time.

With its focus on natural and engineering sciences, the team at KIT is advancing the fields of energy, mobility, and information by pushing the limits of microscale MR detection. Korvink's research with the BioSpec© 152/11 will lead to innovations in MR information acquisition and processing that will primarily be used in material research, enabling optimal characterization and development of novel materials.

Prof. Jan Korvink, Head of the Institute of Microstructure Technology at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology stated

We are looking forward to accelerating the search for new materials at KIT, which will be based on combining artificial intelligence with rapid throughput fluidic microdetectors, using ultra-high field MR imaging technology from Bruker.

Dr. Wulf. I. Jung, President of Bruker BioSpin's Preclinical Imaging division

We are delighted that Professor Korvink will use our unique analytical imaging solutions for his innovative research. Our goal is to enable scientists to create novel solutions and Prof. Korvink's enterprising agenda that combines artificial intelligence with ultra-high field will drive new explorations.
