Major shareholders in Canadian National Railway Co. have called for a new chief executive officer as part of a strategic proposal for the rail company.

CIFF Capital UK LP and the Children's Investment Master Fund, acting by their investment manager TCI Fund Management Ltd., Monday said they nominate railroad industry veteran Jim Vena to replace Jean-Jacques Ruest.

Mr. Vena has more than 40 years of experience in the industry, most recently as chief operating officer and senior advisor to the chairman at Union Pacific Corp.

As well as the CEO nominee, TCI named a set of new nominees for the board that include Gilbert Lamphere, Allison Landry, Rob Knight and Paul Miller.

TCI Fund controls about 5.2% of CN's outstanding stock.
