CEMEX contributes to renovation of iconic promenade in Veracruz, Mexico
January 29, 2019
As part of the 500th anniversary of the founding of the Port of Veracruz, the local government and CEMEX carried out the complete renovation of Manuel Ávila Camacho Boulevard.
The project consisted of the rehabilitation of public spaces, sidewalks, and surrounding roads.
CEMEX, S.A.B. de C.V. ('CEMEX') (NYSE: CX) announced today its participation in the renovation and recovery of Manuel Ávila Camacho Boulevard in Veracruz, Mexico, one of the city's main tourist attractions. One of most popular areas, this iconic boulevard features new recreational spaces for the local population and tourists.
CEMEX collaborated with the local government to design the work and placement of special products to renovate more than 13,000 m2 of sidewalks and 8,000 m3 of fittings, with approximately 10,900 m3 of concrete supplied for this important project. The special concrete complied with the local administration's required guidelines and specifications such as preserving aesthetic finishes, reducing execution times, and making installation more efficient.
'The 'before and after' of this project is very noticeable; the new plazas, trails, and sidewalks have drawn people back to the boulevard, moving calmly and securely,' said Antonio Cruz, CEO at Grupo Constructor de Jalapa, the company in charge of this project.
One of the building work's innovative solutions involved the integration of marble and limestone material to increase the durability and brightness of the concrete mix in order to obtain a more radiant and attractive finish, while avoiding wear and tear from pedestrians and generating significant savings by reducing the project's execution times.
The boulevard's renovation unified the visual impact of more than 3.8 kilometers of pavement, improved the area's pedestrian and traffic lighting, facilitated the flow of vehicles, and provided renewed amenities such as parks and public squares. After a year of hard work, the area has once again become one of the residents and tourists' favorite walks.
CEMEX's cement and concrete technology centers are part of the collaborative research and development network led by CEMEX Research Group AG, headquartered in Switzerland.
