China Shenhua Energy Company Limited has successfully completed the 168-hour trial operation of whole-flow demonstration project of capture and storage of carbon dioxide (CO2) after combustion (Jinjie CCS Demonstration Project). Located in Yulin City, Shaanxi Province with a construction scale of 150,000 tonnes/year, Jinjie CCS Demonstration Project is a national key research and development project. Relying on the Jinjie Energy No.1 600MW subcritical generation unit, the project has integrated with multiple new technologies and processes including new composite amine absorbent and efficient and energy-saving processes, forming a set of new technology system applicable for capturing CO2 from flue gas of coal power plants in China with high efficiency and low energy consumption. During the trial operation of the Jinjie CCS Demonstration Project, collection rate of CO2 reached 90% while the concentration rate of CO2 captured reached over 99%. The successful commencement of operation of the Jinjie CCS Demonstration Project provides technical support for China's coal power plants to achieve "near-zero emission", and accumulates practical experiences for China's thermal power plants to carry out large-scale carbon capture projects up to millions of tonnes, which is of great significance for implementing the objectives of "capping carbon emission" and "carbon neutrality".
