On the evening of December 31, 2021, the exhibition hall of the second phase of the National Convention and Exhibition Center (Tianjin) Project was officially lit up. And a light show was staged at the Iconic Tower, the tallest building in Africa.

The Second Phase of the National Convention and Exhibition Center (Tianjin) Project

The project, undertaken by CSCEC, has a total construction area of 1.38 million square meters, equivalent to 193 standard football pitches. The construction area of the exhibition hall of the second phase is about 600,000 square meters, equivalent to 84 standard football pitches. It is a key project of the strategy of coordinated development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei.

The electromechanical team of the project, by giving full play to its rich experience and resource advantages, installed nearly 20,000 sets of lanterns. LED high-efficiency lighting was used in this project, a model of green and smart building in China. It saves about 300,000 kWh of electricity annually, equivalent to the electricity consumption of a family for more than 50 years. Customized LED lights in V-shaped channels are mainly installed in the exhibition hall, which guarantee balanced illumination. The light strips embedded on the exterior of the exhibition hall highlight the outline of the building, and is not only artistic but also energy-saving.

In addition, a 7-megawatt solar photovoltaic (PV) system built on the roof of the exhibition hall provides green power supply for the exhibition hall. The intelligent lighting control system enables lighting in separate zones, different periods, and different occasions, andis energy-saving, environmentally friendly and convenient.

Iconic Tower

The Iconic Tower in Egypt's new administrative capital, undertaken by CSCEC, is a super high-rise building integrating functions such as office, hotel, business and sightseeing. The project, known as "the tallest building in Africa", covers a total area of 65,000 square meters, with a construction area of 262,000 square meters. It has two basement floors and 78 floors above ground. The highest point reaches 385.8 meters. Started in May 2018, the project saw the completion of its steel structure in August 2021.

A floodlighting system was utilized for the light show. A facade light show was staged for the first time.

The project team installed tens of thousands of RGB+W LED point light sources on the southwest exterior of the Iconic Tower from the fifth to 20th floors for the light show. They were installed in the sun shading louvers and handrail grooves of the curtain wall. All point light sources were controlled by DMX512, a centralized controller. It was the first time that the lighting control technology was applied in Africa.
