PLANO, Texas (AP) _ Cinemark Holdings Inc. (CNK) on Friday reported a loss of $73.4 million in its second quarter.

On a per-share basis, the Plano, Texas-based company said it had a loss of 61 cents. Earnings, adjusted for asset impairment costs, were 17 cents per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 13 cents per share.

The movie theater owner posted revenue of $744.1 million in the period, which also beat Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $729.1 million.
