(Alliance News) - Circle Spa on Tuesday announced that its subsidiary Magellan Circle has been awarded the BlueBARGE project for powering ships. Funded by the Horizon Europe program, BlueBARGE will allocate EUR213,000 to CIRCLE over 36 months and will end in December 2026.

With a consortium of 14 different partners from 9 European countries, BlueBARGE will enable the development and testing of a new model of "cold ironing" via a bunkering vessel to support offshore power supply to moored ships, limiting pollutant emissions and greenhouse gas footprint, following a modular, scalable, adaptable and flexible design approach that will facilitate its commercialization by 2030 by providing a complete "power bunkering" solution.

BlueBARGE aims to contribute to the maritime industry's achievement of European electrification and decarbonization goals and will address issues of electrical integration, challenges of interfacing the platform with ships, ports and the local grid, operational safety aspects and regulatory compliance.

Circle Spa closed Friday's session in the green 1.5 percent to EUR6.95 per share
