PRESS RELEASE - Halle (Belgium) - 25 October 2022 (17h45 CET)

Colruyt Group intends to bring together the energy activities of

DATS 24 and Virya Energy

Colruyt Group intends to centralise the energy activities of DATS 24 Belgium into the energy holding company Virya Energy. In light of a rapidly changing energy market and increasing attention to sustainable energy, the intended bundling of the forces and expertise of DATS 24 and Virya Energy will boost the companies' clout. This fits with Colruyt Group's long-term strategy, one of the pillars of which is "Energy", which focuses on green, renewable and, above all, usable energy.

Colruyt Group and DATS 24 Belgium: a 50-year track record of sustainable energy and mobility

DATS 24 was established as a fuel supplier in 1972 and has since evolved into Colruyt Group's sustainable fuel specialist and energy supplier. DATS 24 offers all common and alternative energy sources in Belgium: petrol, diesel and AdBlue, and also natural gas (CNG), electricity and hydrogen. DATS 24's ambitions include promoting greener mobility and raising the level of public acceptance of the sustainable energy transition. Today, this translates into investments in renewable energy, such as the expansion of the electric charging infrastructure and the construction of public hydrogen stations. DATS 24 informs and inspires individuals and companies about how to achieve more sustainable mobility via workshops, talks and webinars.

In the financial year 2021/22, DATS 24 recorded a EUR 798 million revenue. DATS 24 has more than 70 employees.

Energy specialist Virya Energy: pioneer in sustainable energy sources

Virya Energy was founded by Colruyt Group and its majority shareholder Korys in late 2019. Virya Energy is active in the development, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of sustainable energy sources, with a focus on offshore and onshore wind energy. Virya Energy, which groups several energy expertise companies, is also active in several projects aimed at producing and marketing green hydrogen.

Joining forces and expertise in a rapidly changing market

Colruyt Group wants to continue to grow, gain further expert knowledge and provide a sustainable offering in four areas of expertise, of which Energy is one. In the current energy crisis, awareness regarding the energy transition has increased significantly among consumers, families and companies. In those dynamics, thanks to its direct link with the energy consumer, DATS 24 will more than ever before play its part as an active, reliable guide. The intention to transfer the energy activities of DATS 24 Belgium to the energy holding Virya Energy thus also fits into that context.

Colruyt Group considers that the best way to achieve the ambitions and growth plans of DATS 24 is by combining the business with that of a strong, complementary market player with extensive knowledge and expertise in the area of sustainable energy and innovation. This should give DATS 24 the opportunity to further build on the momentum towards carbon-free mobility, inter alia by putting the maximum focus on electrification.

DATS 24 and Virya Energy complement each other across the entire energy value chain; from development, financing, construction, operation and maintenance to supply and service offering. Bringing together all energy-related expertise throughout the whole value chain should enable both parties to reinforce one other.
