We're all working hard to get ready for the holiday season. Putting up decorations, buying everyone's favorite snacks and treats and don't forget all the gifts. With the volume of purchases being made this time of year, it's no wonder the scammers take full advantage of all our distractions!
Scammers are looking to target you during this busy time. They use various tactics to deceive people such as asking for donations for fake charities, offering shopping deals that are too good to be true, and sending malicious links in text messages and emails disguised as shipping notifications. The scammers are hoping that you click on their link and fall for their scam. Always make sure you know who you are buying from. Research the company. The website should have https in the web address. If it doesn't, don't put your payment information on that site! Never wire money directly to a seller and avoid paying for items with pre-paid gift cards.
Remember, anyone can be a target! If you're concerned about an offer or you think you may have given out too much information, call your bank. Bankers are always happy to help safeguard your accounts and personal information.
