OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (AP) _ Compass Minerals International Inc. (CMP) on Tuesday reported fiscal first-quarter net income of $2.4 million.

On a per-share basis, the Overland Park, Kansas-based company said it had profit of 7 cents. Earnings, adjusted to account for discontinued operations and non-recurring costs, came to 38 cents per share.

The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 43 cents per share.

The minerals producer posted revenue of $331.5 million in the period, which also missed Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $353 million.
