Conexant Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CNXT), a worldwide leader in semiconductor solutions for broadband communications and the digital home, today announced that its CX24128 dual-RF satellite tuner was selected as the winner in the "Best Silicon Innovation" category in the Cable and Satellite International (CSI) Product of Year competition. The CX24128 is used in set-top box (STB) products with personal and digital video recording (PVR/DVR) capabilities. It is the first semiconductor product in the world with two integrated RF tuners on a single die, which allows manufacturers to reduce bill-of-material costs, while saving board space and simplifying RF design layout. The device also supports advanced modulation and coding specifications that provide satellite operators with higher data rates and increased capacity to deliver additional high-definition television (HDTV) channels and services using existing bandwidth and infrastructure.

This is the second year in a row that Conexant has won this important award. Last year, the company's HDTV STB semiconductor system solution won in both the "Best Silicon Innovation" and "Best HDTV Technology or Project" categories.

The award was presented to Conexant at a ceremony at the RAI convention center in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, during the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC). The entries in the fourth annual competition were judged by an independent panel of experts including current and former heads of engineering and operations at some of the world's largest network operators, consultants, and senior industry analysts.

"Having our dual-RF tuner chosen as 'Best Silicon Innovation' by a stellar panel of industry experts is an outstanding accomplishment for Conexant, and a win for our customers as well," said Lewis Brewster, executive vice president and general manager of Conexant's Broadband Media Processing business. "We work closely with operators and set-top box developers to ensure we clearly understand their needs, and then focus on developing innovative products that help solve their real-world challenges. Winning this award for the second consecutive year illustrates our commitment to developing leading-edge solutions that help our customers compete more effectively, and highlights our continued track record of innovation."

Conexant offers a comprehensive suite of digital STB components and system solutions for worldwide satellite, terrestrial, cable and IP entertainment broadcasting networks. The company's product offering includes silicon tuners, demodulators, MPEG audio and video decoders, and dial-up modems for back-channel applications. Complete reference designs that help manufacturers reduce cost and speed time-to-market are also available, bundled with a range of operating systems, middleware, drivers and development tools.
