On 18th July, 2014, COSCO SHIPPING CO., LTD. signed a contract of building a 50,000 DWT semi-submersible vessel with CSSC HUANGPU WENCHONG SHIPBUILDING CO., LTD. Both COSCO Group and CSSC were highly concerned about this project. Mr. Nan Da Qing, Deputy General Manager of CSSC, Mr. Chen Zhong Qian, Board Chairman of CSSC HUANGPU WENCHONG, Ms. Sun Yue Ying, General Accountant of COSCO Group and Mr. Xu Kai, Technical Director of COSCO Group, as well as Capt. Han Guo Min, CEO of COSCO SHIPPING all attended the signing ceremony. Ms. Liu Xue Liang, CFO of COSCO SHIPPING, and Mr. Xiang Hui Ming, General Manager of CSSC HUANGPU WENCHONG signed the contract on behalf of both companies.
In accordance with the contract, this 50,000DWT semisubmersible vessel will join the fleet of COSCO SHIPPING in year 2016. By that time, COSCO SHIPPING will own three vessels of this type in the fleet of semisubmersible vessels. This vessel, with 216.7 meters in length, 43 meters in breadth, is equipped with the world's best DP2 system for carrying almost 90% of the oil drilling platforms and the large offshore engineering products in the world.
Currently, by establishing the POOL of semisubmersible fleet, COSCO SHIPPING has enlarged the fleet scale with 6 semisubmersible vessels of 210,000 DWT in total. The formation of whole coverage in having 20,000 DWT, 30,000 DWT, 40,000 DWT and 50,000 DWT vessels has helped COSCO SHIPPING to become the world's second largest semisubmersible vessel company, and to offer diverse Transportation + Installation service to global clients. And lately on 30th June, a contract of building a 90,000 DWT semisubmersible vessel had been signed between COSCO SHIPPING's wholly-owned subsidiary COSCOL (HK) INVESTMENT & DEVELOPMENT CO., LTD and GUANGZHOU SHIPYARD INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD.
